Sort out the privacy settings

• Once you have changed the settings, you then need to close Discord and then relaunch the app.

• Kill the background apps

Sometimes, if an application is using your desktop’s camera app in the background, it can lead to showing the discord video fail. Also, since Discord is quite a memory-intensive application, we’d recommend that you get rid of all the unwanted applications in the background to free up enough space so you can use the Discord app comfortably.

Ideally, you can close individual applications manually or you can End the task from the Task Manager.

• Update your camera drivers

Sometimes, your camera’s software is so outdated that it doesn’t blend in well with the latest software that Discord is built in. If that is the issue, the easiest fix for that is to update your camera drivers.

• Uninstall and reinstall discord

In that case, you can uninstall your discord app from the desktop and try opening it from the browser once. You can also reinstall and then reopen the discord app from your desktop to check if the problem is still persistent. 

• Wait it out

Sometimes, issues with the desktop, like the device freezing or becoming unresponsive can be a reason why your discord camera isn’t working.

In that case, we’d recommend that you wait for a few minutes and see if things get back to normal. If they don’t, you’d want to switch off the laptop and then restart it to check again.

If the issue was with the desktop, restarting the device should fix the issue immediately.
