Now, first of all it’s important to figure out your issue. Given below are different problems that you might encounter while logging into your account.

• If you’ve forgotten your password or Facebook isn’t accepting your password. 

These are steps you could follow if you’ve forgotten your password or facebook isn’t accepting your password. In this case you would have to change your password. Now there may be two scenarios –

• You’re already logged into your Facebook account. 

Step 1. Tap on your profile picture situated on the top left corner of facebook. 

Step 2. Scroll down and you’ll find the option “Settings”.

Step 3. Tap on “Settings” and then tap on “Password and security”

Step 4. Tap on “Change Password” in “Password and Security”

Step 5. Here you would find the option “forgotten password.” Tap on it. 

Step 6. It will ask you to confirm your email ID that has been linked with your Facebook account. Click on “confirm”.

Now facebook will send a 6 digit code to your email ID (the one linked with your account) 

Step 7. Now you’ll be asked to enter that 6 digit code. After entering the code you’ll be redirected to another webpage where you would be allowed to change your password. 

Step 8. Set a new password. Make sure the password consists of at least 6 characters. You can make it stronger by making it a combination of numbers, letters, symbols or other punctuation marks. 

Facebook will also ask if you want to log out of other devices for safety reasons. You can select this option if you wish to do so but it’s entirely up to you. It’s not compulsory to select it. 

Once you’ve changed your password, Facebook will again send you a confirmation mail to let you know that your password has been changed.      

• You’re not logged into your Facebook account. 

Step1. Go to the Facebook login page. 

Step 2. Click on “forgotten password”.

Step 3. It will ask you to enter your mobile number (the one that has been registered with your Facebook account). In case you’ve not registered your phone number with your Facebook account then you can enter your email ID that has been linked with your Facebook account. 

Step 4. After entering your email/phone number tap on “search”. Facebook will find your account and it will ask you to try and enter the password that you remember. 

Step 5. If the password you enter is incorrect then tap on “Try another way”. It will ask you choose a method to login. If you choose “send code via email” then the steps mentioned above have to be followed in the same way. 

If you choose “Use my google account” then you’ll be asked to login to google and then you’ll redirected to change your password.  

• If you’re having issues with your email address, phone number or username 

If you don’t have access to your email/phone number then you can use an alternative email ID or phone number that has been linked with your Facebook account.  

If you don’t have alternative information then you can go to Facebook login page and enter your full name or email address. Then Facebook will help to locate your account. Once you’ve found your account you can enter your password directly. 

• How to get back if you’re being asked to confirm your identity. 

Facebook usually asks to do a security check if it suspects that your account’s security has been affected. 

You’ll be given 3 options to confirm your identity and you can select either one of them. 

1. You can identify your friends based on their tagged photos. 
2. You can provide your date of birth. Keep in mind that Facebook is specifically asking for the date of birth you provided when you signed up for Facebook. 
3. You can ask a friend to help you. (You can select your trusted friends to help you in case you’re ever logged out of your account. These friends will be able to send you a recovery code and a unique URL which will help you to get back into your account.)
