Canceling YouTube TV

YouTube TV is a live streaming service that’s owned by YouTube. It features the most content from the most providers, including local sports and news stations not available on cable. With over 50 networks, including ESPN, FOX News, TNT, AMC and CNN, it’s no wonder it’s the #1 Live Streaming Service for sports fans.

The best part? You can stream it on any device, anywhere you go – no cable box or satellite needed. You can watch up to three streams at once. Live sports, shows, kids’ programming, etc., are all included with your membership.

Additionally, you get unlimited Cloud DVR storage for recording as many shows as you want. YouTube TV also features a unique “Favorites” section that lets you quickly catch up on the latest from your favorite channels.

YouTube TV was launched in April of 2017 as an experiment. However, now it looks like Google is serious about becoming a player in the cable replacement business.

Unfortunately, this service is not available outside the United States. Other than that, it is available in over 80 metro areas across the US. It’s $35 a month with no contract, and you can cancel at any time.

Factors to Consider If You’re Not Able to Cancel YouTube TV

cancel YouTube TV subscription

If you’re not able to cancel your membership, double-check that:

  • You’re signed in with the same account linked to your YouTube TV membership.
  • Your billing and account information is up-to-date and correct.
  • You haven’t remained logged into your app while traveling outside of your location.
  • You’re not currently living in a YouTube TV blackout zone or have less than 2 active YouTube TV accounts in the same household.

These policies exist for a few reasons:

  • YouTube needs to make sure the subscribers on a given account are actually the ones who can cancel or pause that membership.
  • In order to enforce these safeguards, it has to block access from certain locations and devices.
  • Some policies also allow them to charge a fee. This is in the case that a member tries to sign up for a paid membership from a location or device that’s not currently supported.

How to Pause YouTube TV Subscription

If you’ve changed your mind and want to pause the service instead, we can assist you with that too.

Step 1: You can pause your YouTube TV subscription by heading to the Recent activity section of the app

Step 2: Select the subscription you wish to suspend and tap on “Pause.” This will suspend your subscription for up to 4 months.

Note: When you click on the option to pause, it will provide a link for you to cancel your subscription. As a reminder, there is no way for you to cancel a subscription from inside the app.

You’ll be taken to a page that prompts you with a notice. Canceling your YouTube TV subscription will result in the loss of any live TV content that is being streamed through YouTube TV.

Step 3: After the 4 months is up, you can pause or resume your membership any time during a window of 30 days. Your membership will get charged again after that 30-day period unless you cancel it in the app.

That said, before deciding to cancel your subscription, first consider how much live TV content you are still actively using on YouTube TV. You can check this by loading the menu of individual channels. Then, scroll down to see which shows are showing as available for you to watch now.
