In times of streaming services, movies and series are more popular than ever before. However, one loses the overview relatively fast with the very large offer. Good thing there's a YouTube channel called "Cinema Strikes Back" for this problem.

Video streaming services like Amazon Prime, Netflix, Disney+, Sky or Maxdome can now be found in just about every German household. Each provider offers a wide variety of series and films for streaming or even releases its own productions. With this very large offer of films and series, it is sometimes extremely difficult as a consumer to keep track, to rank these series and films without having seen them or even to know which series and films appear when and where. The channel “Cinema Strikes Back” has taken this topic as its task and publishes, meanwhile very successfully, its videos on the topic on YouTube. Still, probably very few viewers of the channel know what the channel actually belongs to or how it started on YouTube.

In very general terms, “Cinema Strikes Back” is a German public service film and series channel on the web video platform YouTube. The channel and its production belong to “funk”. The videos on it are produced and above all financed on behalf of “funk”. The channel also has four permanent employees who are employed by the Cologne-based company “Schattenwolf GmbH”. The moderation team of the channel “Cinema Strikes Back” consists of Alper Tufan, who takes over the tasks of artistic direction, editing and moderation, Marius Stolz, who is a journalist and formerly worked for the channel “DieFilmfabrik” and Jonas Ressel, who is an Echo – award winner in the category “Best Video”.

Initially, the three presenters took over the channel “DieFilmfabrik” from Dominik Porschen, who gave it up in 2015 due to time constraints. In 2017, however, they gave the channel back to Proschen and were able to concentrate on their own channel, although they remained faithful to the topics of the channel “DieFilmfabrik” with which they already dealt for two years.

Thus, the channel “Cinema Strikes Back” was founded on 09 November 2017. However, the first video on it was released a few months later on January 20, 2018 and was titled: “This is CINEMA STRIKES BACK”. Already in this first video, today’s three presenters introduced themselves and gave a preview of what’s to come on the “Cinema Strikes Back” channel.

Due to the very great experience of the three presenters and the very good editing of the videos, they managed to give the channel very great growth in a relatively short time.

Even today, new videos appear weekly on the “Cinema Strikes Back” channel, all of which are themed around information on new/current movies and series, as well as comics, books and video games. In December, however, the channel puts on an annual highlight. A new video appears there every day under the motto “24 videos – 24 favourite films – 24 guests”, which was the channel banner in December. With this kind of videos, the channel “Cinema Strikes Back” managed to gain well over 257,000 subscribers in the meantime, although the trend is rising very strongly due to the very high interest in the topic.
