In the meantime the name “Leeroy” is a really well known name in the German YouTube scene. No matter who you ask, just about everyone knows immediately who this name is. Nevertheless, only very few know its beginnings and thus its actual main channel “Leeroy Matata”.

The protagonist and operator of the “Leeroy Matata” channel’s real name is Marcel Gerber. Marcel was born on 31 December 1996 in the North Rhine-Westphalian city of Bonn. This makes Gerber just 24 years old. Due to the origin of his parents, he also has Cameroonian roots. Another peculiarity about him that is immediately apparent to anyone looking at his videos is that he has been in a wheelchair since the age of four due to the bone disease osteoporosis. However, this in no way takes away his courage to live or his love of life. His first and actual main channel called “Leeroy Matata,” Gerber founded back on December 23, 2013 at the age of just 17. Very quickly he published on this channel some rare videos related to the sport of basketball, which he himself practiced. However, the first real video on the channel “Leeroy Matata” appeared almost three years later on August 28, 2016. This was titled: “MOBBING because of ROLLSTUHL ???” and was a so-called theme video, which he later published on his channel often.

As a result, he was running his actual main channel very regularly, posting all the videos in the genres of entertainment, lifestyle, comedy and theme videos. With these videos and his own way, and his “deficit” that he is confined to a wheelchair, he was able to build up his fame very quickly and keep increasing it.

In the beginning he only operated this first channel with full concentration. However, when he went on to create his actual secondary channel called “Leeroy wants to know” in 2018, that focus changed. With the videos he published on this channel, he was able to increase his already existing popularity very much. Due to this fact and the fact that he put his focus on the secondary channel and its video content, he “neglected” his actual main channel a bit and put almost all his energy and time into the channel “Leeroy wants to know”.

If you take a look at the channel “Leeroy Matata” today, you will notice that Marcel’s focus is still on the channel “Leeroy will’s wissen”. Today, this is also much better known than its actual main channel. On the channel “Leeroy Matata” new videos still appear, but a maximum of one new video per week. With this channel, which was founded first, Gerber has now managed to attract well over 608,000 subscribers.
