Documentaries for young people

Documentaries for young people

For many young people, documentaries as they are known from the conventional media are simply boring and thus fall out of the pattern of the youthful. Quite a few YouTube channels have thought about this and put their focus on the topic of documentaries. But the plan behind it was to make it very appealing to young people in order to attract them as viewers for documentaries. One of these channels, which was founded with this focus in the past years, is called “Y-collective”. Despite the now very high profile of the channel, only a few of the viewers know who is actually behind the channel “Y-Kollektiv” or how it was founded.

Generally speaking, “Y-Kollektiv” is a German online video documentary channel. As part of “funk”, the channel has been able to produce and publish very high quality videos and content from the very beginning. The channel was also launched by “funk” itself as an independent format.

It is also important to mention that the channel is made up of a team of six journalists. These include Christian Tipke, Manuel Möglich, Lea Semen, Dennis Leiffels, Julia Rehkopf and Gülseren Ölcüm. The journalist Hubertus Koch is a former member of the channel “Y-Kollektiv.

A very big peculiarity of the documentaries of the channel “Y-collective” is the very wide range of topics. The topics are mainly divided into political, social and other topics. From the channel information, ” In our reports, we show the world as we experience it.” The fact that it is not further defined here which topics are mainly targeted shows that a very broad spectrum of topics is allowed.

The channel “Y-Kollektiv” was founded relatively late. If you look at the channel, you’ll see that it’s only at the 13 May 2016 was established. It was not until almost two months later on 14 July 2016 the first video appeared on the channel “Y-collective” which was titled: “Brexit divides the country – Great Britain shortly after the EU referendum”. One of the channel’s most distinguishing features is that the reports are always extremely transparent. From the very beginning of the channel, the content was of the highest quality and very lavishly produced. This led, among other things, to the fact that the channel could grow very quickly. In addition to the YouTube channel, “Y-Kollektiv” is also represented on the social media channels Facebook and Twitter.
In addition to this main channel, the journalists also operate a second channel called “Y-zwei” which has over 29,200 subscribers. On this channel, reporters answer their viewers’ questions in the form of videos in most cases.

On the channel “Y-collective” appears today every week Thursday a new documentary. This is mainly due to the fact that the reports are always very elaborate and therefore require a lot of time for production. As mentioned above, the channel “Y-collective” showed very rapid growth. Today, it already has well over 816,000 subscribers. It should be mentioned, however, that the documentaries, depending on the topic, sometimes achieve well over a million views. These results clearly place the “Y Collective” channel among the largest channels of its kind.
