Mert Abi

At first he was only a number among German rap fans. But at the latest after several scandal videos on his own YouTube channel, even the last of the German people who are occasionally on the Internet should know him. The talk is of course of the German-speaking channel “Mert Abi”. Despite his now very great fame, in and outside of YouTube, only a few people know some data about the person behind the art figure or even the development of his channel.

Miot civil name is the protagonist of the channel “Mert Abi” Mert Eksi. Mert was born on 05 March 1996 and is therefore just 23 years old. Furthermore, Mert, or as his channel is called “Mert Abi”, is a German rapper and web video producer with Turkish heritage.

Eksi founded his channel “Mert Abi” on 22 August 2011 at the age of 15, which is a very young age for an own and successful YouTube channel. During the channel’s run, he has deleted quite a few videos under it or set them to private so they are no longer available to the public. So likewise his “first” video, as of today, was not released until September 19, 2014. This video is titled: “M!$$GEBURT (Andale) | Mert vs. Lappen #11” and is an episode of his then released format, with which the channel became known. In this format, Mert insults and denounces other people who are so-called “rags” in his eyes. It is already clear from the episode that this video could not have been his first.

At that time the channel was still called “itsMertTV”. One of his first formats, which can no longer be found today, was titled “Fifa Kingz Gaming”. In this format, as the name suggested, Mert played the football game Fifa. What made his format special, however, was that he competed in each episode against already well-known rap greats like “Ufo361” or “AlpaGun.” This concept also worked out very well and thus provided the channel with its first considerable degree of recognition.

Then in 2015, Mert’s rap career began at just 19 years old. From then on he published vlogs, other entertainment formats and his own music with partly even produced music videos on his channel. His debut video with the title “Ausländer” as well as his first EP were partly very successful in the German Itunes charts.

Already in 2016, the channel “Mert Abi” reached 500,000 subscribers, which was a significant milestone. Then in 2017, he also released his own first album titled. “Kunde ist König”, which reached second place in the German album charts.

Also in 2017, one of his numerous scandal videos was released. It was a statement video in which he makes derogatory comments about homosexuality and homosexuals. As a result, an enormous shitstorm broke out over the channel “Mert Abi” and his then network “Divimove” parted ways with Mert and clearly distanced itself from the statements. After a short time, however, Mert decided to delete this video from his channel.

Nowadays the channel is called “Mert Abi” and new content and videos appear on it regularly. Besides some entertainment videos Mert uses this channel mainly to release his new music. Furthermore, Mert has already been able to collect well over 1.2 million subscribers on his channel.
